Varady Counseling Services

FIND MORE ease IN YOUR EVERYDAY.

Meet Rebecca Varady, Counselor in Prairie Village & Online across Kansas & Missouri

AT THIS POINT, IT’S UNAVOIDABLE…

The stress and exhaustion you feel from constantly bending over backwards for others. Holding yourself to unrealistically high standards. It’s affecting everything in your life. When you really think about it, there’s nothing that you don’t have to compromise on – from what you eat for dinner every night to the activities that take up your days.

You’ve “gone with the flow” for so long, you’re not sure you still know how to swim.

DROWNING ISN’T YOUR ONLY OPTION.

I guide women through a judgment-free exploration of what has led them to this point in their lives. Through this journey, we’ll acknowledge that some of the ideas you might have about yourself may not have originated within you, and uncover who you really are at your core.

I’ll provide you with tools and philosophies to reframe your past experiences through a lens of compassion and quiet that ever-critical internal monologue. You’ll walk away from our time together with everything you need to move forward into a life that you feel truly satisfied by and excited to be living.

MAYBE "purpose" ISN’T WHAT YOU NEED.

While we’ve all been told that we should be searching for our purpose, we forget that the search itself makes up most of our lives. I believe that a life guided, rather, by values is what brings fulfillment. Values aren’t goals you can work toward, but the principles that you manifest everyday. Together, we’ll get clear on what your values are, and define the actions you can take to bring those values to life.

Here’s the thing:

You’re not broken. You don’t need to be fixed.

My goal is to get you to a place of complete acceptance of not only who you are, but also of the way your brain works and the hand you’ve been dealt in life, because wanting to be better in the future doesn’t have to equal self-hatred in the present.

I’ve heard my clients say that they like working with me because I’m not the type of therapist who nods and smiles through our sessions. I want you to know you don’t have to wait for anyone or anything to do what you want in your life, and I’ll make sure to point that out as needed. Sometimes, we just need to be reminded that we’re in control of how we react to the thoughts and feelings that come up – they don't have to make your decisions for you.

MY APPROACH

Whether you’re dealing with anxiety and depression, trying to overcome perfectionism and combat feelings of worthlessness, or just figuring out how to navigate life as a woman in a man’s world, we’ll find the right combination of methods that work for you.

  • ACT is a type of therapy where you’ll be encouraged to embrace your thoughts and feelings rather than fight them, and learn to manage your reactions. Then, you’ll be able to commit to actionable steps that move you toward what matters most to you in life.

  • While the word “feminist” can be divisive, here it simply means that we’ll acknowledge the cultural, systemic, institutional, and familial messaging we’ve received as women that has trained us to put everyone else’s needs before our own.

  • Mindfulness and self-compassion are practices that are useful in every part of life. They involve learning to stay present through discomfort, being non-judgemental of your thoughts, and being empathetic and kind toward yourself and others.

How it works

When we begin our work…

We’ll have our first session online via a secure video platform, then you can choose whether you’d like to continue that way or have future sessions at my office in Prairie Village.

Frequency of sessions is totally up to you and what works best for your budget. I do ask, however, that we meet at least every other week for the first 5 - 10 visits so we can establish a strong foundation together. You’re definitely not supposed to need me every week for the rest of your life, but many of my long-time clients still choose to check-in a few times a year for maintenance.
